How should we respond to the charges against Alabama senatorial candidate Judge Roy Moore? In light of the recent flood of sexual scandals, it’s easy to understand why many Republicans want to distance themselves from Moore. God forbid they seem to be indifferent to serious sexual indiscretions, especially when a 14-year-old is the alleged victim. Yet, Moore has many political enemies, and these allegations are just now surfacing after 40 years. Could it be a political hit job?

This is an especially challenging question for Christian conservatives.

On the one hand, we have taken enough heat for helping to elect President Trump, as if his own sexual misconduct was not that big of an issue to us. Will we look the other way with Roy Moore too? If so, can we fault those who question our moral integrity?

A headline on Vice.com reads, “Why Evangelical Christians Stand Behind Accused Sexual Predators. Principles have given way to raw, ugly partisanship.” Over on the conservative, National Review site, Katherine Timpf declares, “If You Refuse to Condemn Predators because of Politics, You’re Disgusting.”

Timpf is certainly right. If Moore is guilty of the charges, we should not support him and he should drop out of the race. This is not only because of what he allegedly did, but because he is lying about it today, forcefully denying the ugliest of the charges. As Timpf writes, “The allegations against Roy Moore are disgusting — and if you find yourself reluctant to say so because of your politics, then you’re pretty gross, too.”

But herein lies the problem. These charges remain only allegations, and there are valid reasons to question their validity.

Why are they only surfacing now? Is it because women are now feeling empowered to come forward and call out their accusers, or is it a political ruse? And how did Moore survive being vetted for the Supreme Court of Alabama, ultimately becoming Chief Justice, without any of this alleged immoral and illegal behavior being discovered? How did he even survive the tens of millions of dollars spent to defeat him in the recent primaries without this surfacing?

Think back to the Ted Cruz campaign for president, when 5 women accused him of having sexual relations with them, charges he flatly denied. Do we have any good reason today to believe they were true? (Note also that the National Enquirer was their main source.) Perhaps it is the same with Roy Moore. Perhaps this is nothing more than a politically motivated attack, coming just when he was poised to win the election.

Former Governor Mitt Romney, now considering a run for Senate, tweeted, “Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside.”

But is this a godly response? I understand that Romney is convicting Moore already based on Corfman’s testimony, in light of which he says that, “Moore is unfit for office and should step aside.” Yet is this the response Romney would want (or any of us would want) if he (or we) were falsely accused?

I was never supporter of President Obama (or candidate Obama), but when I read all kinds of allegations against him (or his wife Michelle), my response was always, “He’s innocent until proven guilty.”

And when it came to President Trump, we knew in advance his long history of immoral behavior, and the audio tape of his vile and gross comments from more than a decade earlier only confirmed what we already knew. Our hopes were that he had made some changes in recent years and that, despite our concerns, we preferred him to Hillary Clinton.

When it comes to Roy Moore, he is being supported as an overtly Christian, staunchly conservative candidate with high moral principles, and should he by lying now about his ugly past, he would not be worthy of our support.

We simply don’t know at the moment whether the charges are true, and I agree with President Trump’s sentiments, expressed through press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders: He believes that if the “allegations are true” Moore will “do the right thing and step aside.”

Because I have appreciated many of the stands Judge Moore has taken over the years, I truly hope the charges are not true and that he will be vindicated before the elections. On the other hand, if they are true, not only was he guilty of serious misconduct 40 years ago, but he is lying about it today, in which case he is obviously not fit for office.

In light of this, I believe an ethically consistent, conservative Christian position is that: 1) We agree that if the charges are true, he should step aside, regardless of the political ramifications. But: 2)  We view him as innocent until proven guilty, hoping and praying that the truth will come to light in before it’s time to vote.

So, we hold our standards high but we do not condemn without evidence. This seems quite straightforward to me.

https://thepolitistick.com/bombshell-roy-moore-accuser-worked-hillary-clinton-joe-biden-campaigns/ BOMBSHELL: Judge Roy Moore Accuser Worked for Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden Campaigns, Part of the ‘Resistance’ Roy Moore accuser Deborah Wesson Gibson, working for Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden POSTED BY: MATTHEW K. BURKE NOVEMBER 10, 2017 The Washington Post hatchet job, conveniently produced a month before the Alabama Senate election on December 12, wants us to believe that Christian constitutionalist Judge Roy Moore, 70, a former member of the Alabama Supreme Court who stood up to vicious leftist attacks for his fight for real marriage and the Ten Commandments, sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl when he was 32, in 1979, and that somehow — after 40 years in public service — (judges are elected in Alabama where Moore served on the Alabama Supreme Court) this “news” never before surfaced. Now we are learning — not shockingly — that the false accusations against Judge Roy Moore are politically motivated. Deborah Wesson Gibson, one of Roy Moore’s accusers, is a member of Progressive Politics Alabama and is someone who worked on the political campaigns of both 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and former Obama regime Vice President Joe Biden, providing sign language services. Moreover, as the leading newspaper in Alabama reports, Gibson also provides services to leading Democrats like Sen. Patrick Murphy and Bill Nelson and shared campaign fliers of Roy Moore’s Democrat opponent, Doug Jones, for the Alabama election slated for December 12. Gibson did not respond to texts or email messages seeking a comment from AL.com about her politically-charged accusations. Other reports indicate that the accusers, Leigh Corfman and Gibson, have a history of making false allegations. Further social media posts show that Deborah Gibson was a member of the pro-Communism “Resistance” movement and was vehemently opposed to the Trump agenda, which Judge Roy Moore has vowed to support. So much so that Moore’s win, in the face of fervent establishment opposition, was called a win for the Trump agenda. Like much of the radical left, “Resistance” member and Roy Moore accuser Deborah Wesson Gibson referred to President Trump as “Hitler” and a “dictator.” Surrender Caucus Leader Mitch McConnell (who unprecedentedly spent $30 million to defeat Moore in the Republican primary — Moore was running against his hand-picked puppy dog, Luther Strange) and his merry band of establishment RINO stooges, pounced on the news, immediately calling for Moore to exit the race so that a Democrat can be elected. Of course, there is no way to disprove something someone has been accused of 38 years ago, something the GOP establishment is relishing in. Shamefully, pro-Obamacare, pro-amnesty RINO John McCain, whose voting record is 67% liberal, called for Moore to step aside for the Democrat, even if the allegations are untrue, that the allegations alone are enough to disqualify Moore — which tells you everything you need to know — the establishment of both parties wants to block Roy Moore from being elected to the U.S. Senate. 9 NovNBC Nightly News with Lester Holt ✔@NBCNightlyNewsReplying to @NBCNightlyNews If allegations against Roy Moore are true, "he should seriously think about stepping aside," Sen. Rounds says. NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt ✔@NBCNightlyNewsBREAKING: Sen. McCain: "The allegations against Roy Moore are deeply disturbing and disqualifying. He should immediately step aside and allow the people of Alabama to elect a candidate they can be proud of." 12:46 PM - Nov 9, 2017 Why? Because let’s face the truth — the GOP establishment would rather have a Democrat than a real conservative who has previously said that he would not support McConnell as majority leader, and will fight to restore the Judeo-Christian values and principles that are responsible for making America the greatest country on earth — principles that are under assault by godless progressives in both political parties. This is why swamp creatures Mitch McConnell — John Thune — John McCain can accept the WaPo hit piece as gospel — from an organization that frequently traffics in fake news in order to smear conservatives and more importantly — Christian such as Roy Moore. For Mitch McConnell, these kinds of dirty tricks against conservative Tea Party candidates is nothing new. Remember Mississippi, where Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel was viciously smeared as a racist by the GOP establishment in 2014, in order to keep sleepy and incoherent RINO stooge Thad Cochran in power. Judge Roy Moore issued the following statement refuting the salacious, politically-timed allegations: “Today, the Judge Roy Moore Campaign for U.S. Senate issued a statement responding to yet another baseless political attack by the Washington Post, a paper that has endorsed Judge Moore’s opponent. Moore campaign chair Bill Armistead released the following statement on Thursday afternoon: Judge Roy Moore has endured the most outlandish attacks on any candidate in the modern political arena, but this story in today’s Washington Post alleging sexual impropriety takes the cake. National liberal organizations know their chosen candidate Doug Jones is in a death spiral, and this is their last ditch Hail Mary. The Washington Post has already endorsed the Judge’s opponent, and for months, they have engaged in a systematic campaign to distort the truth about the Judge’s record and career and derail his campaign. In fact, just two days ago, the Foundation for Moral Law sent a retraction demand to the Post for the false stories they wrote about the Judge’s work and compensation. But apparently, there is no end to what the Post will allege. The Judge has been married to Kayla for nearly 33 years, has 4 children, and 5 grandchildren. He has been a candidate in four hotly-contested statewide political contests, twice as a gubernatorial candidate and twice as a candidate for chief justice. He has been a three-time candidate for local office, and he has been a national figure in two ground-breaking, judicial fights over religious liberty and traditional marriage. After over 40 years of public service, if any of these allegations were true, they would have been made public long before now. Judge Roy Moore is winning with a double-digit lead. So it is no surprise, with just over four weeks remaining, in a race for the U.S. Senate with national implications, that the Democratic Party and the country’s most liberal newspaper would come up with a fabrication of this kind. “This garbage is the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.” On Thursday, Judge Moore called the allegations by the Post “completely false and a desperate political attack.”

False allegations are the mother's milk of politics. Be assured that I am speaking from personal experience. I was a relatively high party (Democrat) official in California. Some of my tactics would put those of Chuck Colson to shame. On several occasions I was told by party candidates for whom I was an operative, that they didn't care what I did, as long as I did not tell them about it.(Plausible deniability.) It finally reached a point where I could no longer live with myself. I've been clean and sober for nearly four decades. To those whom I have offended, I have asked for and continue to ask for forgiveness. To those whom have offended me - I offer your my forgiveness.
