I went to a church that pushed prophecy and kept pushing it, people saying all kinds of crazy things. And then we were supposed to believe it and when it didn't happen we had to explain it in other obtuse ways. And we don't dare "throw out the baby with the bath water." That latter phrase makes me want to vomit. Sorry, but from what I've seen it doesn't look like there was ever a baby in the bath water. Stop telling people if they don't swallow garbage that they're throwing out the baby. At the church I was at they told us if we didn't believe the so-called prophets that it was the same as tearing pages out of the Bible. What? I highly revere Scripture and would never tear a page out. If anything, they are ADDING jibberish to God's word and it is shameful. I'm fine with prophecy that sounds like scripture, but predictive prophecy... not interested. After being burned I have no desire to seek it or even listen to any of it. God knows my heart and the massive damage that has been done, so if He wants me to hear and believe a prophetic word, then He will make it happen. But I'm not going to waste time pursuing the so-called prophetic Christian celebrities.

Prophet? What makes a person a prophet? The answer is simple: any con artist who can figure out how to open a Facebook account can suddenly claim to receive divine prophecies. And who verifies their claims? Absolutely no one, that’s who. (It’s why “Elmer Gantry” is one of my favorite movies.)
