President Trump’s State of the Union message, coupled with the Democratic response, reminds me of why I voted for Trump in 2016. And why I plan to vote for him again in 2020. The contrasts are just too extreme. I am conscience-bound to vote against the radical left and to vote for the causes that Trump will uphold. Everything else pales in comparison.

I am voting against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tearing up the president’s speech for the whole world to see.

As the White House tweeted out:

Speaker Pelosi just ripped up:

One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen.

The survival of a child born at 21 weeks.

The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller.

A service member's reunion with his family.

That's her legacy.

I am voting against the socialist policies of Reps. like Rashida Tlaib, who tweeted: “I walked out of that speech. The lies, the bigotry, and the shameless bragging about taking away food stamps that people depend on to live—it was all beneath the dignity of the office he occupies. Shame on this forever impeached president.”

My apologies, Rep. Tlaib, but helping people find meaningful employment so that they do not need food stamps is hardly “taking away food stamps that people depend on to live.” And empowering the poor is not bigotry.

Of course, sites like Mother Jones agreed with Rep. Tlaib, tweeting, “While Trump brags on national television about the decline in food stamp enrollment and lifting people out of poverty, his actual policies "will cut off basic food assistance for nearly 700,000 of the nation’s poorest and most destitute people.”

But no one can deny that Americans, across the board, are doing better financially under the current administration. Even CNN acknowledged the truthfulness of Trump’s words when he said, “The unemployment rate for African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Asian-Americans has reached the lowest levels in history.”

As noted on the CNN website, “Trump is correct. The unemployment rate for each of these three groups is at a record low, at least since the government has been issuing data on them. (The data for African Americans and Hispanics goes back to the early 1970s, while data for Asians only goes back to 2000.)”

CNN also added, “Trump inherited a positive trend that has continued during his tenure. The unemployment rate for all three groups had fallen substantially under President Barack Obama from the recession-era levels of 2009.”

Yet CNN could not deny the economic progress under Trump, one that truly benefits the people of America, including minorities. Including women. Including veterans. Including the disabled. Including young people.

And so, when I vote for Trump, I am voting against the socialism of potential Democratic nominee like Bernie Sanders. The effects of his proposed policies, along with those of other leading candidates, would be disastrous.

I feel conscience bound to cast my vote, a vote that will be meaningful.

I am also voting against every Democrat (including Speaker Pelosi) who chose to sit rather than stand when the president called on Congress to ban late term abortions.

My conscience doesn’t allow me to skip the election because Trump does not live up to all my ideals. Nor does it allow me to cast a protest vote for another candidate who cannot possibly win.

Maybe that’s what your conscience dictates, but not mine.

And so, I will cast my vote against the policies of the radical left, including the abusive policies of sanctuary cities that are lax in punishing illegal immigrants who engage in criminal behavior.

But I will also cast my vote for many of the things the president stands for. Things that are precious to me. Things that should be precious to all people of faith, in particular, to followers of Jesus.

I am voting for the man who called for school choice initiatives, which will enable many families to pull their children out of state-run schools and enroll them in private, preferred schools.

And I am voting for the man who said at the State of the Union “. . . I am also calling upon members of Congress tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies.”

Say it loud and clear, Mr. President.

This is also the man who, as White House reporter Gabby Orr noted, “has routinely called on Congress to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a bill that would make abortion after 20 weeks unlawful in most cases.”

And I am voting for the man who said, “I have signed legislation to stamp out the menace of human trafficking domestically and all around the globe.”

As noted again by Gabby Orr, “Last week, Trump announced the creation of a new position inside the White House Domestic Policy Council ‘solely devoted’ to combatting sex and labor trafficking. The president's daughter, senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump, has worked closely with outside groups, members of the president's Cabinet and lawmakers on anti-human trafficking policies.”

I am voting for the man who noted that he “recommended 180 new judges to uphold our Constitution as written. This includes Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.”

The implications of this are generational in scope.

And I am voting for the man who is “defending religious liberty. That includes the constitutional right to pray in public schools.”

Yes, I am voting for the man who said, “In America, we don't punish prayer, we don't ban symbols of faith, we don't muzzle preachers and pastors. In America, we celebrate faith, we cherish religion, we lift our voices in prayer and we raise our sights to the glory of God.”

I am also voting for the man who is “defending national security and combating radical Islamic terrorism,” and that starts with not being afraid to utter the words “radical Islamic terrorism.”

I am voting for the man who faced down Iran, and who said, “Our message to terrorists is clear: You will never escape American justice. If you attack our citizens, you forfeit your life.”

And I am voting for the man who has been called “America’s First Zionist President” after his new peace-plan proposal.

That’s what (and who) I am voting against, and that’s what (and who) I am voting for.

Can you imagine how different things would have been under President Hillary Clinton? Or under a future President Bernie Sanders? Or President Elizabeth Warren?

That, my Never Trumper friends, is why I cast my vote.

I strongly encourage you to reconsider your stance.

People have been lied to and deceived for so many years -- decades -- that they believe President Trump's returning to our nation's founding principles is The Lie. Reversing the course of the destruction of our founding ideals that has gone on since before I was born (I'm 44) while getting hated and attacked and zero cooperation is a feat no one but the Trump-Pence team could pull off, and not without our prayers and support. Real problems and situations affecting millions of our people are rarely if ever discussed, let alone cooperatively corrected. Sexual sin is not the ONLY sin. Taking away human freedom and stealing money/wasting it on frivolity and murdering our weakest citizens for "convenience" are sins. Lacking the self-discipline or morals to stop blaming "society" for not having what you think you need is a sin (on the other hand many homeless people WANT to live that way, creating health hazards and chaos). Forcing people to agree or be silenced is not God's way, and being vulgar is not good but speaking the truth is. We have had real liars running our local, state, and federal governments for several decades. So when you have someone at the top who fearlessly verbalized what's really going on, he gets accused of being The Liar. It's absurd.

Most of the antagonist who post here are void of a rational recognition that God can use the likes of a Donald John Trump to confound a nation He has turned things upside down that includes the way political leaders operate, who have operated while hidden behind a veiled agenda for generations. Trump is not afraid of them and for all his faults he continues to do what he campaigned on! If God wants the swamp drained then-drain the swamp! when I read most of what is said on here, It is becoming troll-like

Dear Dr. Brown, thank you for your article and many points. I am your brother in Jesus and at this time I can't imagine voting for President Trump. Regardless of policy I believe he attacks the structures of our nation as well as our trust in them. He attacks any structure and anyone who dares disagree with him. Policy can be changed in a moment if the structure is broken. I have seen in a prior article of yours more balance about the positives and negatives of both parties. I am very alienated by individuals who only speak of how their side is right and good, and the other side is wrong and despicable. As I have struggled with my reaction to them as well as political leaders on both sides, the Lord has called me to reject my temptation to bitterness and pray for them. I do see this time our nation as an opportunity for Christians to model the love of Jesus in the midst of disagreement. Jesus is Lord. Thank you. Steve Schulte

You support a man who has abused the rule of law and Democratic process, and - with Democratic incompetence and Republican collusion - gotten away with it. He was "exonerated" of impeachment charges by a sham trial with biased jurors (McConnell admitted before the trial he wasn't impartial, then toke an oath that he would be) where no witnesses were called, and evidence was limited because Pres. Trump told prospective witnesses not to honor subpoenas. (Isn't that obstruction of justice?) Why do you continually support a man given to speaking untruths, whose primary worship/love and servitude is to mammon/money, and whose administration's policies reflect that servitude? (Mat 6:24; 1 Tim 6:10; Rev 21:8; Rev 3:17-18)

To be frank, evangelicals have embarrassed themselves and lost all credibility with their unwavering Trump worship. Flatly contrary to Jesus's teachings, Donald Trump is a man who (1) says he does not need to ask God for forgiveness, (2) states that he does not love his enemies, (3) lies serially, (4) has had 3 marriages and truly degrading interactions with women and porn stars, (5) mocks, bullies, and attacks anyone who doesn't praise him, such as mocking palsy, and (6) punishes purple heart veterans and other patriots if they dare speak factual information Trump doesn't like. I don't EVER want to be lectured by an evangelical again on morality. It's clear to me that you don't FOLLOW the Bible to assess politicians; you selectively USE the Bible to justify your political choices. It's disgusting. I never thought I would see his day. It makes me wonder if Jesus Christ even exists -- there's just no evidence of it from evangelicals in this environment. If anything, I feel like you are treating Trump as Lord.

A man of character admits his faults and mistakes. A man of integrity owns up to wrong doing. TRUMP lacks both !! He continues to believe he's above the Law and continues to put his own selfish interests above what is right for this Nation!! THAT'S TREASONOUS ‼️

Supporting a liar, a cheat, an adulterer, a tax evader, a misanthrope, a con man, a scofflaw, a draft dodger, an abuser of power, an obstructer of Congress, etc., seems rather distaste to me. On the other hand, I’m wondering who will prevail among the Democratic contenders. Is there a third choice?

Is the Bible socialist because poor people could walk onto a farm and take food without paying as long as they didn't put anything in a basket, and farmers had to donate a tremendous amount to charity? They could only go over land once to pick crops and the leftovers were for the poor. If American farmers as Christians had to follow the rules of the Bible including letting the land rest on the seventh year, etc, Christianity would be rare among farmers probably. Social Security and Medicare are probably socialist ideas, but the Republicans won't stand up against them and get rid of them. They had control of the government, but they didn't do it, so they must be socialists too.
