I really appreciate you addressing this subject and the manner in which you did so, Dr. Brown. Your boldness and willingness to address this sin when it is so often ignored and willingly overlooked is laudable. One of my pet peeves is when some pastor gets up and preaches on some practice which they turn into a vice and sin where the Bible does not - such as smoking or drinking alcohol - while Ms. Lulu Bell who is morbidly obese and weighs 500 pounds is sitting in the front row throwing out the occasional "Amen!" in between her donuts. It's perfectly ok to characterize one as the spawn of Satan if they smoke cigarettes or are seen with a beer in their hand but Ms. Lulu Bell can make a half dozen posts on her Facebook wall about eating her cheese cake and what-have-you but nary a word one is said about that or not even standing up during the worship when asked. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to condone smoke, drinking, or any other such thing. I'm just saying that no one takes the John 7:24 approach with those as you did with obesity. From what I see in Scripture, one who might enjoy the occasional cigarette or cigar or pipe or even a pinch between the cheek and gum is no different than one who might enjoy an occasional beer or drink or Hostess Twinkie, just as long as they are in control and not the substance. And I'm just trying to say that "eating" seems to be one of those things that can be sin but nobody wants to bring it up because obesity is rampant in the churches today.
